VH1 Rips Off The Scope (But We Ripped Them Off First…)

Attention Scope Fan(base):

The second VH1 World Series of Pop Culture began this week. Color us surprised that a tiebreaker question between teams “The White Russians” and “Remo-Leen-Teen-Teen” was one we used on last year’s Scope World Series of Pop Culture.

The tiebreaker question: Steven Spielberg movies. It really is a case of life imitating art.

At any rate, tune into VH1’s spectacle this week (it really is a fun show for all of you pop culture nerds out there) and be warned: The second edition of The Scope World Series of Pop Culture will return this fall. Feel free to email us at The Scope if you are interested in competing AND if you’ve got some serious pop culture knowledge.

Special Edition: The Scope Transformers Review

It’s all been building to this, The Scope’s very special Transformers movie review. We watched as a group, so it’s only fitting that we review it as a group. Join us and our ill-fated Nerd Roundtable panel to find out what we liked and what we hated about the film — or is it a movie, Adam?

Send us your feelings about Transformers. Call us at 206-350-7056 or email us at comments@thescopeshow.com; we would really like to know what you think about the whole thing. We will play or read the best of your comments on the next scheduled show, so sleep well knowing the fate of that show rests in your hands.

We take out second stab at the roundtable, with hilarous and sad results. Who’s no longer talking to one another? Who insulted women (again)? Will Earl still go see Transformers?! Listen in for 2.5 hours to find out!

Micro Movie Review: Live Free or Die Hard

Live Free or Die Hard is the fourth installment in the Die Hard film series. It stars veteran actor Bruce Willis as John McClane, the hero of the first three films. The film takes place some 19 years after the first film, and sees McClane face a gang of Internet terrorists led by Thomas Gabriel (Timothy Olyphant.) McClane doesn’t face the baddies alone, however. He’s forced to protect and eventually team up with nerdy computer hacker Matt Farrell (Justin Long, Ed, Jeepers Creepers, The Mac Guy.) Together, they must take out the bad guys, rescue McClane’s daughter, and make sure the baddies don’t wipe out the Internet.

Is Live Free or Die Hard worth your time?

Micro Music Review: Sky Blue Sky

Wilco turns back the clock in their latest release Sky Blue Sky. In homage to 70s rock, Wilco strips the bells and whistles found on previous albums and puts out their most organic album since their 1995 debut A.M. Lyrically, Jeff Tweedy doesn’t mess around with vague lyrics that are left up to interpretation. They are pleasant, straight forward, and get directly to the point.
