The Scope Ghost of Christmas Past

Merry Christmas Eve, Scopers.

Yes, we already posted our annual holiday message. But it wouldn’t be The Scope if we didn’t repost one of the best examples of photoshopped goodness to ever come from your favorite podcast.

It’s an oldie but goodie. Our first holiday greeting image. Enjoy.

Happy Holidays (again!)

Happy Seasonally-Appropriate Holiday From The Scope

The Scope crew wants to wish everyone out there an exciting, safe, and satisfying holiday, whatever it is you may celebrate!

Also, we want to thank all of our fans for the years of unending support. No lie…every tweet, email, facebook post, and voicemail you may leave is greatly appreciated. We look forward to many more shows (from mediocre to kick-ass) in the upcoming year of 2011. Please stick around for the ride! (But there probably won’t be many lightcycles. Sorry ’bout that.)

One programming note: we’re not sure if there will be one final show in 2010…but as always, we’ll keep you kids posted!

Happy Holidays, ninjas!

Episode 101: The Scope Holiday Gift Guide

In an appropriate act of timing, your Scope hosts discuss all of the hot (and not so hot) trends in holiday gift-giving. Due to bit of nasty Minnesota weather interference, poor Adam has to make his appearance via the computers.

And no episode of The Scope would be complete without a little bit of news and coming soon.

Episode 101 of The Scope is one more than episode 100.

Episode 100: A Grand Celebration of The World’s 76th Greatest Podcast

Well, it took four and a half years and ninety nine shows (plus a bunch of others not counted as “official”) but we finally made it to the magical triple digits. Yeah, we know people wanted 100 episodes of The Scope like they wanted eight seasons of “According To Jim,” but Adam, Jared, and Shane soldiered on despite the haters.

For our very special 100th episode, we decided to mine the past for all of our favorite comedic bits and as well as ask many of The Scope’s terrific guests to come back and wax poetic on their experiences with the show. And just for fun, we also talk to some very special celebrity guests*, all congratulating The Scope on reaching such a lofty benchmark.

If that wasn’t enough, we force Adam to run the gauntlet that is the now-classic “Under The Scope,” just because it wouldn’t be a celebration without a little more of Adam’s cynicism and lackadaisical news reading. And it wouldn’t be a true Scope show if the show length wasn’t close to four hours. It’s called “padding it up,” people.

And, finally, everyone here at The Scope just want to thank all of our friends, family, and fans for their years of support. We still aren’t sure why we’ve done the show this long, we do know that we wouldn’t have been able to do it without you guys. Thanks, everyone!

The Scope episode 100 doesn’t care that Adam only appeared on 36 shows. It’s quantity, not quality, right?

*We cannot confirm or deny if The Scope episode 100 actually features real-life celebrities.

Episode 99: Estrogen Bombs and Holy/Wholy Underwear

For the first time in 99 episodes of The Scope, the ratio of men to women on the show was a cool 1:1. How it happened probably can never be fully explained. But the reality of it all was captured on crystal clear podcasting audio tape.

Yes, the significant others of your Scope hosts were nice naïve enough to stop by the show and finally see what their men do in the Scope subterranean studio. And much to their surprise, it didn’t involve Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle action figures and Smore fixins.

You’d think that the ladies just showing up would be cause for more than enough excitement. But, no, they are agreed to play a Scoped up version of the classic Newlywed Game.  Make sure you listen all the way through to see if all three couples survive the relationship carnage.

Speaking of carnage, nothing turns ladies on like zombie talk. So your friends at the Scope also review the hottest and goriest show on TV, The Walking Dead.

Talk about the most romantic Scope episode evah!

The Scope episode 99 really wants to eat your brains, but it can’t spare one of its 6 listeners. Podcasting immortality > zombie basic needs.

Episode 98: Rock Band, Octopus Heads, And A Naughty Little QB (aka The “Tommy Can You Hear Me?” Edition)

Yes, we know. The Rock Band 3 pining by Scope host Shane has grown tiresome. Luckily, it all comes to a head this week as Rock Band 3 is *FINALLY!!!!!* (emphasis inserted by Shane) released and in stores everywhere.

To celebrate this event (second in importance only to Mikhail Gorbachev’s visit to Minneapolis in 1990) your Scope Show was lucky enough to land one of the biggest Rock Band know-it-alls out there: Rockbandaide’s Tommy. This rhythm game expert raps about rock, band, 3, rhythm, games, and how awesome the Green Bay Packers are.

And if that wasn’t enough, The Kings of Leon really wanted to have another review from their favorite podcast, so they made a brand new album for The Scope to critique!  Will Caleb and Co. be completely happy with what Jared, Shane, and music correspondent Al have to say about it? (Hint: it rhymes with “snope,” “snow sway,” and “not a chance.”) Is their most-favored band status is in danger?

Time will tell. Time. Will. Tell.

The Scope episode #98 commits to using the orange button on the plastic guitar but can’t promise anything when it comes to the vocal harmonies.

Episode 97: Broccoli Rob Vs. The Catfish In The Corner (and Dengue Fever, too)

Here we go again. Even though the masses cry,”Uncle!” your Scope crew rolls on with yet another episode. At least Adam had the decency to skip out…again. Luckily, the busiest man in podcasting, John “Nort Nort” Norton was kind enough to fill the third spot on the show.

#97 spends a lot of time on the inadequacies of Minnesota sports teams (with great emphasis on the hapless Twins), and even more time discussing the multitudes of pop culture assaulting our brains this fall. Yes, that means more TV, music, and movie talk. It ain’t original, but we’ve made a living off of it the past five years. (If a living is $45.32.)

Finally, Shane won the First-Show-Canceled Contest. Again. Thanks, “My Generation.” You didn’t let him down.

The Scope episode 97 won’t stand so close to you. Unless you use Polo cologne. Growl.

Episode 96: It’s All About Assaulting The *CENSORED* (And Jared Turns Another Year Older)

It’s a familiar formula: take a Scope host’s birthday, throw in a party and some blueberry-flavored vodka, set up a handful of mics, and push the big red “record” button on the computer.

And what comes out of it? A big old Scope mega-mess. But in the best way possible.

Yes, it was Scope host Jared’s party (he didn’t cry, but he could have if he wanted to) and that meant one thing: drunken recording with a bunch of his closest friends (yes, that means Adam was nowhere to be found.) It also meant a truncated show without most of the Scope filler you’ve come to love.

Still, we made the effort to whip up another edition of “Scope Pyramid” (without the lovable Dick Clark) as well as give you a sampling of Under The Scope. We can’t guarantee it was a good show, but we will go on record and say it was shorter than most episodes. And that’s what the world needs…just a little less Scope.

Hey, who’s writing this stuff, anyway?

The Scope Episode 96 knows that Shane ain’t funny but still loves him unconditionally. Group hug, bitches!
