Under The Scope | Movie Review: Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues

Even though they’re a little late to the party, Jared and Shane shake off their Christmas hangovers and get the Scope movie reviews back on track with a viewing of Will Ferrell’s Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues. This followup to the beloved cult classic brings back all the original cast (and a lot of famous people cameos) for more funny newsie shenanigans.

The real question is this: does Anchorman 2 oomph have enough to eclipse the original or will it be relegated to Netflix and Blu-Ray bargain bins? You’ll have to listen and watch this latest Scope Mobile Movie Review to find out!

The Scope Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues movie review would never be tough enough to bottle-feed a baby shark.

Happy Holidays From The Scope

All of us here at The Scope just wanted to take a quick second to wish all of our fans out there Happy Holidays, Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year. Although we definitely planned on all sorts of holiday and 2013 wrap ’em up type programming, the reality of tight schedules, illness, and vacations got in the way this year. You know, that stuff just happens.

At any rate, we hope you all get some time off of work,  spend some time with your families, and just enjoy the season!

We’ll definitely be back with more Scope goodness soon. Thanks for sticking with us, Scopers!

Jared, Adam, Shane

Under The Scope: Movie Review: The Secret Life of Walter Mitty

What happens when you merge the comedy classic There’s Something About Mary with the dramatic classic, Forrest Gump? Well, you don’t really get Ben Stiller’s latest opus, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty. But it’s kind of close, we guess. (Don’t expect a zipper, though.)

In this winter release, Ben Stiller travels the world, trying to find Sean Penn (and, more poignantly, himself) while trying to keep his crazy imagination from getting the best of him. You know, heartstrings.

Oh, did we mention it also features the divine Kristen Wiig? Because it does. Definitely a selling point if there ever was one.

The Scope The Secret Life of Walter Mitty movie review can both excel at its job and can be open to new things. Take that, Mitty.

Under The Scope: Movie Review: American Hustle

Well, Oscar season is in full force, and David O. Russell’s follow up to Silver Linings Playbook is discoing into the picture. Of course we’re talking about American Hustle. It tells the story of a con man, a con woman, and an overzealous FBI agent all trying to just get along. And they’re all decked out in as much polyester as the 70’s had to offer.

This superhuman cast (Christian Bale, Amy Adams, Bradley Cooper, and Jen(ius) Lawrence, among others) transport us back to the time of ugly cars, Studio 54, and lots and lots of smoking indoors. But will that be enough to captivate Jared and Shane? Well, watch and/or download this right away and find out!

The Scope American Hustle movie review doesn’t need to perm its hair like Bradley Cooper. Natural curls, baby. Natural curls.

Episode 160: Adam, 8-Bit Baseball, and the Cast of Full House

In honor of the biggest year for video games in almost a decade, The Scope has a new bit completely dedicated to electronic entertainment medium. Called Scope Essentials, Jared, Adam, and Shane pick their most-loved video games for a particular system. This time around, the original NES gets a bunch of Scope love.

Download/watch this episode and experience some seriously retro talk about some of the best cartridges the original Nintendo had to offer. And if you say anything bad about Super Dodge Ball, you’ll get a fist to the face. Seriously, it’s a pretty gnarly game.

The Scope episode 160 is still scratching its head over The Adventures of Lolo. Lolo? Really?

Episode 159: Black Cat’s Boobs and Peter Jackson’s Phantom Menace

The Scope shines best and brightest when it engages in healthy and spirited geeky debate. So, on this edition of your favorite podcast, Jared, Adam, and Shane bring back the World Famous Nerd Roundtable. This time around, the boys tackle the expanding Spider-Man movie-verse, Black Friday shenanigans, and the upcoming Hobbit movie. And they do it with the usual Scope panache.

But you’ll never know how well they roundtable it up until you start downloading. Yeah, we’re looking at you, Chief.

The Scope episode 159 has an unhealthy fascination with turkey grease and tight spaces.

Episode 158: Meat, Socks, and Puppetry Aplenty

Your Scope hosts return in triumphant fashion, gabbing about all things Dr. Who, Wikipedia, and John Stewart vocabulary. Of course, it wouldn’t be a completely satisfying first show of the cycle if it didn’t include Adam’s fantastic take on the latest news events across the world of popular culture. (You’ll just have to listen and/or watch to find out if that did indeed happen. But here’s a subtle hint: yes, it did happen.)

So get to digesting the latest Scope show. We promise it won’t cause any new-media indigestion.

The Scope episode 158 used “grist to the mill” properly in a sentence and it couldn’t be prouder.

Instant Movie Review: The Hunger Games: Catching Fire

In the latest Scope movie review, Jared and Shane grab their arrows and tridents while checking out The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. Will this white-hot sequel top the original or will it leave your Scope hosts feeling like Haymitch Abernathy after a he consumes far too much Capitol ale?

Make sure to download the podcast or watch video review to find out!

The Scope The Hunger Games: Catching Fire instant review is sad Jen didn’t have enough time to talk to us on the red carpet. But at least her new pixie haircut is super cute!

Instant Movie Review: Saving Mr. Banks

The Scope’s latest entry in our vast library of film reviews is Saving Mr. Banks, a story that tells the “true” tale of how Mary Poppins became a big hit movie for Walt Disney and his cartoon mouse empire.

Saving Mr. Banks has a terrific pedigree (it stars Emma Thompson and Sir Thomas Hanks as Walt himself) but can it overcome sentimentality, alterations to the real story of P. L. Travers’ dislike of the Disney Machine, and Colin Farrell playing a nutty, drunky, outbacky turn of the century dad?

Why don’t you download, listen, and watch Jared and Shane tell you what’s what?

The Scope Saving Mr. Banks instant review needs at least two spoonfuls of sugar (and a beer chaser) to help the medicine go down.
