Scope Instant Review: Now You See Me

Well, it’s official. The race for the worst summer movie of the season has started, and the Jesse Eisenberg “magic-chase-thriller” Now You See Me takes an early lead in a contest no film wants to win.

As if one bad movie per week (After Earth, ahem) wasn’t enough, Jared and Shane double up on the bad for the latest edition of The Scope Summer Movie Slam with a head-scratchingly poor film about a team of Robin Hood/Avengers-like magicians and a bumbling FBI agent hellbent on catching them. This film is, simply put, a big old mess…and your Scope hosts do their best to rant it into oblivion. Is it too early to call it a classic review? Download it and find out, Scope faithful.

The Scope Now You See Me Instant Review is proud to have a writeup that doesn’t feature clever word play based on the title of the film or magical catch phrases. We’re really growing up.

Scope Instant Review: After Earth

No one ever said all summer movies have to be great. And it’s a good thing, too, because the Will Smith/Jaden Smith/M Night sci-fi un-classic, After Earth, would totally break that rule.

Yes, Jared and Shane were lucky enough to score free passes (because there’s no chance they would have paid) for this film. And you, the Scope listener, are even luckier because these two brave men will tell you why you shouldn’t see this movie. And it might have a little to do with nepotism, blades instead of guns, weird accents, and spaceship interiors that look like whale carcasses.

So sit back, fire up the latest Scope special, and let the movie reviewing fun begin.

The Scope After Earth Instant Review demands you surrender your phone at the theater entrance.

Scope Instant Review: Epic

Well, the latest entry in the Scope Summer Movie Slam is a family affair. This time around, for the animated epic called…Epic, Shane conducts the review not with Jared and/or Adam, but with his lovely wife Carrie and his kick-ass kid, Audrey. It makes sense since Audrey is clearly the key demo for this film. It’s a guarantee they’ll discuss tiny leaf people, stunt celebrity voice casting, and realistic three-legged pugs. So, Scope business as usual.

Will Epic get some serious love or will it fall victim to the devastating triple Palmerslam™? You’ll just have to download this very special edition of The Scope Summer Movie Slam to find out. DO IT NOW!

The Scope Epic Instant Review may or may not get five stars and Pitbull does look a bit like a frog. Deal with it, Audrey.

Scope Instant Review: Fast & Furious 6

The Scope Summer Movie Slam asks a very tough question: Can Jared and Shane enjoy a super sneak preview of Fast & Furious 6 even though, between the two of them, they’ve seen only one F&F movie?

Well, you’ll have to listen to the latest Scope movie review and find out!

In this compelling miniature podcast, Jared (Dom) and Shane (Brian) discuss the multitude of car chases, the charisma of The Rock, and the deep, dead blue eyes of Paul Walker. Basically, there’s something here for everyone. You’d be crazy to not download this thing. So get to, won’t you?

The Scope Fast & Furious 6 Instant Review wants to find a 30-mile long runway and just taxi ’til the cows come home.

Scope Instant Review: Star Trek Into Darkness

The Scope 2013 Summer Movie Slam kicks off in high style with the return of J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek crew. Yes, we’re talking about the super humongous blockbuster Star Trek Into Darkness. This film has it all: pointy ears, a young Starfleet captain eager to disobey orders, and a nasty villain that’s really good with shooting big guns. Oh, and a whole lot of transporter mischief.

But the real question is this: will Jared and Shane love this movie as much as the first or will it be “logical” to send a little hate its way? You’ll only find out if you listen (or if you scroll to the bottom of this post. We put the star rating right there. Seriously, just a couple lines below this.)

The Scope Star Trek Into Darkness instant review wanted more space whales along with a dash of Winona Ryder. RIP Spock’s mommy.

Episode 139: The 2013 Summer Movie Preview (With a Dash of Real Estate Advice)

While it hasn’t felt like summer for the Scope folks of the greater Minneapolis area, the calendar says the time for beach blankets, hot dog roasts, and copious amounts of action/comedy/sci-fi films is just about here. That means the Scope triumvirate of Jared, Adam, and Shane will tell you what’s what with the summer cinematic world.

And, in case you’re keeping track, this is either the sixth or seventh (because we’re not really keeping track) Scope Summer Movie Preview. But we do know for sure it’s the start of the seventh year of the Scope. So raise your glass or something.

Also, because The Scope cares, make sure to listen all the way through the episode this time. The guys have what’s sure to be a mega-controversial review of possibly the biggest movie of the summer, Iron Man 3. Can the Marvel movie machine continue to churn out winning super hero films? You’ll have to listen to find out what The Scope thinks. Because that’s what truly matters.

The Scope episode 139 isn’t sure what Bengal tigers and Bon Jovi have to do with one another, but both are mentioned in the same sentence somewhere within the show. It’s like some sort of weird Waldo search for podcasts.
