July 29, 2013 | Posted by: The Scope
It’s time once again for the annual Minneapolis gathering of geek…and of course, Jared and Shane cover CONvergence 2013 like only two of three Scope hosts can. That means tons of in-the-field reporting, special guest stars, and a new trivia challenge that doesn’t ever go as expected.
The guys might also sprinkle in copious amounts of booze throughout the festivities. Because that’s what one does at CON, right?
The Scope episode 145 won’t ever stop co-oping Dana’s Carson and Phil’s McMahon. You are correct, sir.

Scope Instant Review: The To Do List
July 25, 2013 | Posted by: The Scope
How does one write an introduction for a Scope Summer Movie Slam movie seen almost three months ago?
That’s a good question with no real good answer. So we’ll just do the best we can, Scope Faithful.
This edition of the Slam brings you The To Do List, a teen-ish comedy starring Parks and Recreation’s Aubrey Plaza. This movie, when pitched the studios by writer/director Maggie Carey, probably was something like, “it’s an early 90s American Pie from the female perspective.” That sounds…like…it…might…be…kinda…cool, right? Right?
Go ahead and feel free to download this podcast to find out what Jared and Shane thought of this amazingly star-studded laugher. (Or look at the Scope score below this text. It’s pretty telling, truth be told.)
The Scope The To Do List instant review doesn’t remember enough of this film to have a witty ending comment for this write-up. Maybe next time.

Episode 144: LukeSkiCon and the Power of the Zorch
July 22, 2013 | Posted by: The Scope
This week, The Scope’s very own Jared heads to LukeSkiCon to celebrate everything Luke Ski. And he was cool enough to get some awesome audio whilst on said trip. Cooler still, Jared plays the audio on the latest episode of this podcast. Coolest of all: Adam and Shane aren’t on that audio. You’ll have to settle for them at the beginning and end of the show only.
Wipe away those tears, you sad camper. It’ll be okay. Just download the latest episode and you’ll see. We wouldn’t lie to you.
The Scope episode 144 wouldn’t mind a Luke Ski/Better Than Ezra team-up. Imagine the possibilities.

Scope Instant Review: R.I.P.D.
July 19, 2013 | Posted by: The Scope
Sometimes the Scope Summer Movie Slam reviews a fantastic film. Sometimes it reviews a below average film. And sometimes, albeit very rarely, the Slam gets a gander at a film like R.I.P.D.
Thank goodness it’s only rarely.
R.I.P.D. aims to ruin the careers of Jeff Bridges, Ryan Reynolds, and Kevin Bacon. Yes, this soulless stinker of a comic book movie brings nothing new or clever to the table. Even Bridges’ attempt at “Depping it up” by creating his own version of Jack Sparrow (in this case, a quirky cowboy policeman) falls flat far too often.
Luckily, Jared and Shane took a bullet and saw this piece so you don’t have to. Please, save some cash at the box office and instead download our definitive review on hopefully the one and only R.I.P.D. movie ever made. Please, let it be the only one.
The Scope R.I.P.D. instant review will billy goat you if it gets the chance.

Episode 143: That’s So Adam (Softball Hijinks and News In Da House)
July 15, 2013 | Posted by: The Scope
After a short one-week break, Jared, Adam, and Shane return to the Scope studio for another edition of the “World’s Most Dangerous Podcast.” This time around, the boys focus in on the “Under The Scope” segment like nobody’s business. That means, for the uninitiated, tons of great pop culture news and a little bit of what’s coming soon from the pop culture universe.
Of course, that would be enough for most average podcasts. But The Scope gives more because The Scope loves you. As an extra bonus, Adam tells the tale of a softball rivalry so epic that it will melt your face. Or, at the very least, it will add fifteen minutes to the episode. Take your pick.
The Scope episode 143 is slightly taller that you think because it uses French inches.

Scope Instant Review: Pacific Rim
July 12, 2013 | Posted by: The Scope
Is there anything better than giant robots punchin’ the stuffin’ out of giant monsters? Jared and Shane attempt to answer that question in the latest Scope Summer Movie Slam review! Yeah, your Scope hosts dig into Pacific Rim, the brand new sci-fi spectacular from Guillermo del Toro. You know, he’s the director loved by all geeks everywhere. Or so we’re told.
So you better get to downloading this thirty minute mega review. Jared and Shane stomp through the critique like del Toro’s super monsters smash through a so-called indestructible sea-wall. This special edition podcast is not to be missed. Roar!
The Scope Pacific Rim Instant Review would probably just use the mega robot sword right away rather than wait until the monsters almost win. Have we learned nothing from Voltron or Power Rangers, people?

Scope Instant Review: Despicable Me 2
July 4, 2013 | Posted by: The Scope
Hey Scope fans! The Scope Summer Movie Slam returns with a review of Despicable Me 2, the sequel to, you guessed it, Despicable Me. Steve Carell and the rest of the voice cast returns to bring life to the further adventures of Gru and Co. And to make this even more special, Audrey and Carrie join Shane in another Palmerslam edition of The Slam. So, be a sweetie and download this already!
The Scope Despicable Me 2 Instant Review never announces the name of its secret weapon before using it. That’s amateur crap.

Scope Instant Review: The Way Way Back
July 3, 2013 | Posted by: The Scope
Another day, another Scope Summer Movie Slam review. This time around, it’s one of Shane’s most anticipated films of the summer, The Way Way Back. This coming-of-age story, featuring Sam Rockwell and Steve Carell, tells the story of a young outcast trying to make friends while away at his mom’s boyfriend’s summer home. This review features talking from Jared, Shane, Adam, and the lovely Mandy! So if you don’t download the latest Slam, you are missing out. And doing a disservice to humanity.
Don’t disservice humanity, listeners.
The Scope The Way Way Back Instant Review would rate itself a solid seven, if not eight.

Scope Instant Review: World War Z
July 2, 2013 | Posted by: The Scope
Everyone knows The Scope loves zombie stuff…so what better way to honor The Scope Summer Movie Slam but with a review of World War Z, the film adaptation of Max Brooks’ epic novel.
Jared (Gerry), Shane (Terry), and Carrie dig into Brad Pitt’s biggest film to date and discuss this global/viral/bitey disaster picture. Your Scope hosts have been talking about this thing for well over a year…so it’s a guarantee they’ve got a lot to say about it. So, please, download this fantastic review faster than the zombies from WWZ chase down their hapless human victims.
The Scope World War Z Instant Review would never put the crowbar down. That’s zombie survival 101, isn’t it?

Episode 142: Tantrums, Vampires, and Mash ‘Em Ups Aplenty
July 1, 2013 | Posted by: The Scope
Hey Scope faithful, another week here…and another new Scope episode. It’s like it’s some sort of habit all of a sudden.
This week on The Scope, Jared, Adam, and Shane get down to tellin’ the masses what they’re into right at this moment. There’s a really good chance it’s got a lot of music talk. There’s a slightly better chance Shane calls out Scope music-correspondent Al with his pick. Luckily, Al isn’t in the studio to hit Shane with a dodgeball and then make him run laps. (Al’s a PhyEd teacher. If you listened regularly, you’d know, people. Keep up.) Even with the pretend tension, it’s bound to be a great show. Download it now, won’t you?
The Scope episode 142 is pretty tired after three weeks of shows in a row. But we do it because we care.
