Scope Instant Review: Epic

Well, the latest entry in the Scope Summer Movie Slam is a family affair. This time around, for the animated epic called…Epic, Shane conducts the review not with Jared and/or Adam, but with his lovely wife Carrie and his kick-ass kid, Audrey. It makes sense since Audrey is clearly the key demo for this film. It’s a guarantee they’ll discuss tiny leaf people, stunt celebrity voice casting, and realistic three-legged pugs. So, Scope business as usual.

Will Epic get some serious love or will it fall victim to the devastating triple Palmerslam™? You’ll just have to download this very special edition of The Scope Summer Movie Slam to find out. DO IT NOW!

The Scope Epic Instant Review may or may not get five stars and Pitbull does look a bit like a frog. Deal with it, Audrey.

Scope Instant Review: Fast & Furious 6

The Scope Summer Movie Slam asks a very tough question: Can Jared and Shane enjoy a super sneak preview of Fast & Furious 6 even though, between the two of them, they’ve seen only one F&F movie?

Well, you’ll have to listen to the latest Scope movie review and find out!

In this compelling miniature podcast, Jared (Dom) and Shane (Brian) discuss the multitude of car chases, the charisma of The Rock, and the deep, dead blue eyes of Paul Walker. Basically, there’s something here for everyone. You’d be crazy to not download this thing. So get to, won’t you?

The Scope Fast & Furious 6 Instant Review wants to find a 30-mile long runway and just taxi ’til the cows come home.

Scope Instant Review: Star Trek Into Darkness

The Scope 2013 Summer Movie Slam kicks off in high style with the return of J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek crew. Yes, we’re talking about the super humongous blockbuster Star Trek Into Darkness. This film has it all: pointy ears, a young Starfleet captain eager to disobey orders, and a nasty villain that’s really good with shooting big guns. Oh, and a whole lot of transporter mischief.

But the real question is this: will Jared and Shane love this movie as much as the first or will it be “logical” to send a little hate its way? You’ll only find out if you listen (or if you scroll to the bottom of this post. We put the star rating right there. Seriously, just a couple lines below this.)

The Scope Star Trek Into Darkness instant review wanted more space whales along with a dash of Winona Ryder. RIP Spock’s mommy.

Episode 139: The 2013 Summer Movie Preview (With a Dash of Real Estate Advice)

While it hasn’t felt like summer for the Scope folks of the greater Minneapolis area, the calendar says the time for beach blankets, hot dog roasts, and copious amounts of action/comedy/sci-fi films is just about here. That means the Scope triumvirate of Jared, Adam, and Shane will tell you what’s what with the summer cinematic world.

And, in case you’re keeping track, this is either the sixth or seventh (because we’re not really keeping track) Scope Summer Movie Preview. But we do know for sure it’s the start of the seventh year of the Scope. So raise your glass or something.

Also, because The Scope cares, make sure to listen all the way through the episode this time. The guys have what’s sure to be a mega-controversial review of possibly the biggest movie of the summer, Iron Man 3. Can the Marvel movie machine continue to churn out winning super hero films? You’ll have to listen to find out what The Scope thinks. Because that’s what truly matters.

The Scope episode 139 isn’t sure what Bengal tigers and Bon Jovi have to do with one another, but both are mentioned in the same sentence somewhere within the show. It’s like some sort of weird Waldo search for podcasts.

Scope Instant Review: G.I. Joe: Retaliation

The slightly more Tatum-ier, newly 3D-converted sequel to 2009’s G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra is here, and Shane and Jared channel their inner child (they share one — it’s weird, don’t bring it up) to tackle G.I. Joe: Retaliation for The Scope’s Spring Film Fling. Why does a film based on a Hasbro line of toys carry enough clout to merit two scores? You’ll have to listen to know. And knowing is half the battle. The other half is cheesecake. This battle is delicious!

The Scope G.I. Joe: Retaliation review will gladly swing your unconscious body from the mountaintops.

Scope Instant Review: Olympus Has Fallen

Spring has sprung (only technically; it’s still a cold and snowy wasteland here), and so begins a new season of movies. The Scope’s Spring Film Fling is off with a bang as we tackle a film that’s been described as “Die Hard in the White House.” We find out if the description is appropriate, and whether you really can cram in a bunch of Greek mythology names into a script without sounding silly. Guest host Earl is also along for the ride.

The Scope Olympus Has Fallen review would never play a game of Eff Off with you and have you go first.

Episode 138: How Does Johnny Hot Dog’s Beet Garden Grow?

The Scope crew returns with tons of convention talk, Skylander quandaries, and general pop culture conversation shenanigans…and that’s all in the first thirty minutes.

But because one half hour of podcasting isn’t enough for Jared, Adam, and Shane isn’t nearly enough entertainment for one show, the boys also bring back the awkwardly named “Into, Over, and Forward.” It’s probably best to just listen to the show rather than expect some sort of complicated explanation as to what the bit is; trust us, we’re the experts here. But rest assured, if you want to know about XM Radio, The Americans, and the end of Rock Band, this segment is definitely for you.

So download, listen up, and send your commentary our way. If only to give Adam some beard-trimming feedback. He’s getting a bit…shaggy, yo.

The Scope episode 138 thinks that Doctor Who show just might catch on.

Episode 137: Snutch and Scultch – 2013 Oscar Predictions

With the biggest awards night upon us (besides the AVN Awards, natch) Jared, Adam, and Shane felt it would be prudent to once again make their world-famous Oscar predictions. For the Scope faithful that means an exciting and healthy debate over how likable Annie Hathaway is (and if she prefers carrots or sugar cubes with that big mouth of hers) and if Spielberg deserves yet more accolades from those Hollywood kiss-ups.

But wait! There’s way more to this episode of The Scope. It’s got: Lily Tomlin clips, The Macho-Man, New Years TV show resolutions, Jared winning a Scope contest, Ferris Bueller TV show references, and a one inch ingrown beard hair. And that’s all in the first three hours of the show!

So get to downloading now, Scopers. You WILL NOT be disappointed. (If you are, blame President’s Day. That’s what we’re going to do.)

The Scope episode 137 is gonna rock down to Obama Avenue. And then we’ll take it higher. Oh yeah.

Episode 136: Minecrafting Pixel iPads, Snozberry Alergies, And Rounding Nerd Tables

The first full show of 2013 brings the return of The Nerd Roundtable…you know, the lazy man’s Scope bit. Jared, Adam, and Shane buzz through a bunch of topical topics (most of which are sure to cause all sorts hurt feelings or straight-up boredom from the Scope fan base.) That being said, the guys still save enough time to get into the latest video games and how J.J. Abrams will ruin and/or kick ass on the latest Star Wars movie.

All in all, it’s a fine return to Scope form. You’d be a lowdown dirty chump if you didn’t download and listen. Like right now. What are you waiting for? Oh, your mom is using the computer and you can’t get it right now? No problem, the show ain’t going anywhere. We’ll be here for you.

The Scope episode 136 knows Shane has the same body as Peyton Manning. And that’s a scary thing.

Scope Instant Review: Zero Dark Thirty

The Scope Winter Film Binge is back and better than ever! This latest edition is all about Kathryn Bigelow’s Zero Dark Thirty. It’s a grim and gritty look at the hunt for Bin Laden.

But if there’s one thing you won’t be hunting for in this audio review is Adam…because, for the first time in the Binge, he’s part of the team. That’s right, your favorite third wheel is in on the discussion and, boy, does he have things to say. Some of it is even relevant to the film.

So get to downloading and learn The Scope’s take on an early Oscar favorite.

The Scope Zero Dark Thirty review likes the fact that Burt Macklin was on the case. America salutes you, Agent.
