January 20, 2014 | Posted by: The Scope
The latest episode of The Scope brings a lot of sports talk (the Super Bowl is right around the corner) and a lot of football heartbreak for Jared, Adam, and Shane. Yes, once again, their teams are nowhere near greatness, so the guys have to talk about how bad the Minnesota Vikings and the Washington (redacted) are.
Don’t be sad, Scopers. The show isn’t all long faces and depression. Jared raises the quality level with his fantastic interview with British Scope Superfan Dan T. Find out what makes Dan tick, how he got interested in The Scope (and American football) and marvel at his brain as he takes on a challenging Scope trivia quiz. It’s a an episode NOT TO BE MISSED! So watch and/or listen now, won’t you?
The Scope episode 163 isn’t sure how sexy gremlins got into the conversation…but it isn’t insulted by the results.

Under The Scope | Movie Review: Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit
January 17, 2014 | Posted by: The Scope
Winter is cold, but the silver screen is evergreen with intrigue and action. And now, a classic intrigue series from the 1990s is rebooted for a modern audience. Of course, we talk of the Jack Ryan series based on the books by Tom Clancy. Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit goes back to the beginning with its title role, recast with Star Trek‘s Chris Pine. Filling out the cast of Shadow Recruit’s tale of terrorists, both traditional and financial, are Kevin Costner as the boss, Kenneth Branagh as the villain, and Keira Knightly as the capable dame.
Is this film a slice of cinematic spectacle capable of distracting you from winter’s chill? Or is it merely a shopworn plot with decent performances and occasional moments of success? Tune in to find out.
The Scope’s Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit review can’t tell you it’s in the CIA until we’re married.

Episode 162: The Scope’s Favorite Things of 2013
January 13, 2014 | Posted by: The Scope
In the second of a two-part end of 2013 retrospective, Jared, Adam, and Shane talk about all the great pop-culture things that came out of the last 365 days. (Well, for Adam, it really means the last 730 days, but you’ll have to listen to know exactly what that means.) Basically, the guys talk a lot of movies, TV, video games, and one incredibly cool retro toy. And, as an added bonus, there’s visuals! So to all you podcast people: it’s time to get over to YouTube so you don’t miss out!
While the favorite things segment was a hoot, the real revelation was the new nickname for Scope superstar Jared: Master of the Mailbag. Let’s see if this one sticks, shall we?
The Scope episode 162 will give it a genital rest if you ask nicely.

Under The Scope | Movie Review: Her
January 9, 2014 | Posted by: The Scope
The Under The Scope Movie Review is back and this time it’s all about an Oscar-buzzworthy film, Her. The latest from filmmaker Spike Jonze stars Joaquin Phoenix and the voice of Scarlett Johansson in a classic tale of a boy who falls in love with his sexy-voiced operating system.
You know, the typical romantic comedy stuff.
But the real question is this: will Jared and Shane take to this near-future film or will they opt for a full computer reboot? Watch and/or listen and find out!
The Scope Her movie review wants nothing to do with strangling anyone with a dead cat’s tail.

Episode 161: 2013 Winter Vacation Wrap-Up
January 6, 2014 | Posted by: The Scope
The Scope fellas are finally back in studio after a bit of an unexpected December hiatus. In their triumphant return, Jared, Adam, and Shane dig in and discuss YouTube fun, crazy medical situations, and how to perpetuate the great Santa Claus deception. There may be a little weather talk in there as well (after all, Shane is a weather alarmist and Minnesota is experiencing some honest-to-goodness record cold.)
So sit back, turn up your audio and/or video player, and get reacquainted with the guys. They are here for you.
The Scope episode 161 will soon have Instant Review tattoos tramp stamps, like it or not.

The Scope 2013 New Year’s Eve Special
January 1, 2014 | Posted by: The Scope
2013 is ended. We now stare into the gaping maw of a new year, and in that crevasse we spy the makings of great new things. Join us in celebration of the new year by partaking in the return of a Scope family tradition: The New Year’s Eve Special. We turned on the microphones sometime after midnight, and whoever was still around at the party joined in on the conversation. There was also abuse of the sound board.
All of us here at The Scope wish you and yours a happy and prosperous 2014.
