Episode 168: The Nerd Roundtable Returns (The Britney Spear Edition)

Episode 168 of The Scope brings the heat with another exciting installment of The Nerd Roundtable. This time around, the guys battle over Titanfall, the terrible Minnesota weather, MarsCON hotels, and True Detective. We’ll let you decide which topics may or may not qualify as nerdy. (But if you say weather, Shane may adjust your barometric pressure.)

So get to watching, listening, or downloading for later. 168 is so worth it, Scopers. So worth it.

The Scope episode 168 attempts some serious wire work.

Under The Scope | Movie Review: Bad Words

Not even the eternal winter cold could keep Jared and Shane away from another Under The Scope movie review. This time around, your hosts tackle Jason Bateman’s Bad Words, a film in which he was both the director and the star. If you can’t say anything nice…

To find out more about this disappointing movie and an equally bizarre screening experience (who thought a stand-up comedian was needed to prime the audience?) The Scope demands you download AND watch this immediately. While it might not be as important as, let’s say, the reboot of Heroes, it’s right up there.

The Scope Bad Words review wouldn’t waste Allison Janney’s talents.

Episode 167: Bible-Bumpin’, Blast-Processin’ Bitches

The Scope is back for its 167th edition with a pledge to focus on tons more ugnaught coverage. If little pig men from Star Wars aren’t your cup to tea, Jared, Adam, and Shane dig into all the latest news headlines from across the land. Yes, that means tons of Noah and Praystation talk.

Really, it’s everything you’d ask for from an entertaining podcast, without the burden of entertainment.

The Scope episode 167 activates news thrusters like a boss.

Episode 166: 2014 Oscar Predictions

Well, it’s that time of year again…when Hollywood feels the need to pat itself on the back and your Scope hosts feel the need to feed the beast, so to speak. Yes, that means Jared, Adam, and Shane are back to their old Oscar predicting tricks.

After a particularly difficult 2013 contest, can your Scope hosts bounce back with insightful selections? There’s only one way you’ll ever find out. Digest the show in whatever format suits you. Then you’ll know the truth. And it will set you (and Jonah Hill) free.

The Scope episode 166 is alright alright.

Under The Scope | Movie Review: RoboCop (2014)

Will the RoboCop remake have Peter Weller rolling over in his grave (what’s that? Peter Weller isn’t dead?), or will it be a grand beginning to a new franchise? Jared and guest host Earl have the answer for you. It turns out, it might be a bit of both. But you’ll have to tune in to get all the details.

The Scope RoboCop review would tell you to buy something for a dollar, but it won’t feel right coming from us.

Episode 165: The RoboCop Scenario – Growing Up Is Hard To Do

The Scope is back with a brand new edition. This time around, your Scope hosts welcome special guest The Great Luke Ski to discuss getting older, growing up, and if it’s still okay to buy toys at the age of thirty-something.

And, because The Scope is nothing if not topical, the guys might mention The Olympic Games (or at least some Putin guy.) But maybe not. You’ll have to listen and/or watch to find out.

The Scope episode 165 isn’t scared to shout, “Stop, Creep!”

Under The Scope | Movie Review: The LEGO Movie

After a bit of a mid-winter drought, The Scope is back with another mobile movie review. This time around, Jared, Shane, and his energetic (at least off-camera) daughter, Audrey, take in the eagerly-anticipated The LEGO Movie.

Will the voices of Chris Pratt and Co. be able to “build” something special or is this film more like a big old bucket of Mega Bloks? If you take just a couple of minutes to watch and/or listen, you’ll find out!

The Scope’s The LEGO Movie review is a big fan of Greg Evigan and his 80s hair.

Episode 164: Don’t Talk About Jared’s Fight Club

With the return of The Scope after one short week off, Jared, Adam, and Shane spend a little time chatting about fighting, football, and France (okay, not France, but it makes for one heck of an alliteration, doesn’t it?)

For realz, the guys actually get in the face of all the latest news headlines, teaching them lessons they so rightly deserve.  Make sure you listen closely for the latest gossip on a couple of rodent gumshoes. It may be the highlight of the show.

The Scope episode 164 is currently developing a Mario’s Fart Machine app.

Episode 163: Football, Fish And Chips, And A Scope Superfan

The latest episode of The Scope brings a lot of sports talk (the Super Bowl is right around the corner) and a lot of football heartbreak for Jared, Adam, and Shane. Yes, once again, their teams are nowhere near greatness, so the guys have to talk about how bad the Minnesota Vikings and the Washington (redacted) are.

Don’t be sad, Scopers. The show isn’t all long faces and depression. Jared raises the quality level with his fantastic interview with British Scope Superfan Dan T. Find out what makes Dan tick, how he got interested in The Scope (and American football) and marvel at his brain as he takes on a challenging Scope trivia quiz. It’s a an episode NOT TO BE MISSED! So watch and/or listen now, won’t you?

The Scope episode 163 isn’t sure how sexy gremlins got into the conversation…but it isn’t insulted by the results.

Under The Scope | Movie Review: Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit

Winter is cold, but the silver screen is evergreen with intrigue and action. And now, a classic intrigue series from the 1990s is rebooted for a modern audience. Of course, we talk of the Jack Ryan series based on the books by Tom Clancy. Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit goes back to the beginning with its title role, recast with Star Trek‘s Chris Pine. Filling out the cast of Shadow Recruit’s tale of terrorists, both traditional and financial, are Kevin Costner as the boss, Kenneth Branagh as the villain, and Keira Knightly as the capable dame.

Is this film a slice of cinematic spectacle capable of distracting you from winter’s chill? Or is it merely a shopworn plot with decent performances and occasional moments of success? Tune in to find out.

The Scope’s Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit review can’t tell you it’s in the CIA until we’re married.
